Art Books

What makes a “Rembrant a Rembrant?” is a recommended book.

My idea is to have a book of resource sheets on many artists, then to find additional books that are age-level appropriate and choose the artist that way. For example, there is a beautiful book about a Russian ballerina that centers on the paintings of Degas.

It is also great to do I Spy games with art. You can photocopy images from art books or print them offline and amke up your own I Spy game. I would do this by printing postcard size images and writing the title, artist, medium, style, and year on the back. It could be a matching game, flash cards, or an I Spy game.

I would like my children to be able to discuss art, identify the most common artists, understand the periods of art, enjoy several mediums, and understand the different styles.
